Keeping up with life. . . .and death!

Ever since I wrote Stories in Stone, it has been my dream to have a champagne party in Topeka Cemetery. Last week, Beth Cooper Meyer made that happen.

It was a lovely, barely fall evening as a curious and enthusiastic crowd gathered by the Hurley monument--a granite obelisk weighing over 20 tons. It towers above the mausoleums built into the hillside behind and the entire scene looks over the skyline of downtown Topeka. It is one of the prettiest views in our fair city. We drank a toast to the dearly departed who created that skyline, and Beth told some of the ghost stories from this historic site.

As the sun sank down, we had a small tour of some of the closest graves. It was, altogether, a wonderful evening!
