The Devil Went . . . .

If your first response to the above is "The Devil Went Shopping" you're probably from New York City. But if your first thought is "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" you're a by-God Southerner and a Charlie Daniels fan.

This big boy from Carolina was born in Wilmington on this day in 1936. What you might not realize is Charlie was a session guitarist in Nashville, yes, guitarist, and recorded with Bob Dylan and toured Europe with Leonard Cohen. What a mix!!!

I have loved Charlie Daniels for as long as I can remember. His absolute and unshakable faith, his creativity, his ability, his compassion for his fellow man--all these characteristics combine in an unique person. He once commented that he wasn't really an outlaw, more of an outcast.

To be cast out in such good company would be an honor. Happy Birthday, Charlie. God Bless.

He almost always played guitar until "The devil went down to Georgia" became a big hit.

I didn't know that! Of course, I should have known. . . coming from Carolina, those boys who can pick and play do it all!
